About

Wyre Digital is Mike O'Connor: a senior full-stack engineer and founder based in Fleetwood, Lancashire.

Who you're dealing with

I've spent eighteen years building web software: first as a developer, then as a senior and lead engineer on contract for companies including LexisNexis and Kaboodle, and the whole time I've been running websites and businesses of my own. The longest-running is Park Right Ltd, which I co-founded in 2013. I built its airport parking platform, now BeforeYouFly, from the first line of code to a live business with customers, suppliers and a payments operation, and I've run it ever since.

That mix is the point of Wyre Digital. Contract work taught me how software is built properly at scale. Running my own product taught me what it costs to run, what customers actually do with it, and which corners you regret cutting. Clients get both.

The studio traded as Avalar Software Ltd until 2026. The new name is a plainer statement of where I am and what I do.

How I work

  • Plain English. If I can't explain a technical decision in a way that makes sense to you, I haven't finished thinking about it.
  • Written scopes, written prices. No surprises on invoices.
  • Working software early. You'll click through real screens within the first couple of weeks, not sign off a document.
  • You own everything at the end. Code, repository, hosting accounts and domains are handed over in full on final payment.
  • I'll say no. If what you're asking for isn't the best way to get what you want, or if you don't need a developer at all, I'll tell you.

Tools and stack

I've shipped production software in PHP and Laravel, TypeScript and Node (NestJS and Next.js), React and Vue, and Go, on PostgreSQL and MySQL. The choice depends on the project and on what you already run; I'd rather build in your existing stack than talk you into a new one. Stripe for payments, Postmark and Amazon SES for email, AWS, Laravel Cloud and Vercel for hosting. I work with AI coding tools daily, inside a structured workflow of planning, review and tests, and I'm open about how they're used on your project.
